About WYP

What is the aim/goal of WYP?

WYP was established to create a cross industry organisation for young professionals to develop both personal and professional relationships and skills.

Who does WYP target as members?

Anyone in the first 15 years of their career and living, working or wanting to make connections in the Wellington region.

What is considered professional?

If you feel WYP will benefit you in your profession, then WYP considers you a professional.

What benefits do we offer our members?

WYP first and foremost facilitates opportunities for our members to create their own individual networks through a balance of social and professional events.

Secondly, WYP offers a range of benefits provided by both local Wellington businesses and national sponsors. From discounted coffees to tailored suits WYP membership benefits have you sorted.

What makes WYP different?

Our main point of difference is that we're open to people of all professions. WYP is not occupation specific and encourages members to create their own dynamic and professional networks.

How is WYP funded?

WYP is funded jointly through its membership base and sponsors. We are not-for-profit and will do our best to keep the cost of membership and participation down.

How did WYP start?

WYP was established in September 2008 by 11 young, professional Wellingtonians who were keen to bring the success of the cross-industry 'Young Professionals' concept to Wellington.

This concept evolved from a group of like-minded individuals in Christchurch, from a variety of occupations, who saw benefit in interacting with each other on a regular basis, rather than their peers from work or university. The group saw an opportunity for a network to be created that could provide such benefits to the wider business community, and which wasn’t aligned with a specific industry. Receiving a positive response to their ideas, they formed a committee and went on to expand the concept to establish the Canterbury Young Professionals in September 2006.
